Dublin Modular Gathering

at the Royal Irish Academy of Music
(Katherine Brennan Hall)
June 21st and November 15th 2019

We developed our "Gathering" series with the idea of bringing electronic artists from all genres into a space allowing them to perform their music and discuss their process in composing/producing. The concept for this event was an immersive exhibition of experimental sounds performed by Irish based artists. Our artists use all types of hardware and software in their performances including modular synthesis, analog, tape, vinyl and digital devices. Demonstrating the huge variety of electronic musical material being developed in Ireland.

The concept behind this project was creating a space/home for the electronic community in Dublin/Ireland. Both events were a great success with a big turnout in the Katherine Brennen Hall kindly provided to us by the Royal Irish Academy of Music. As there is no modular electronic store in Dublin (or Ireland), it is very difficult to try out and get introduced to new modules. Our meetups create the solution for this issue allowing people in Ireland to bring their modular set up and show them off. Participants and audience members came from all over Ireland, highlighting the demand for a space to experiment and develop electronic sounds in Ireland.

We picked themes for each gathering, for these events we chose “My Favourite Module” as the theme. Participants demonstrated and talked about their favourite electronic device during rig introductions and pop-up performances. We are grateful to have received sponsorship and support from major companies around the world in electronic music devices including Make Noise (USA), Mutable Instruments (France) and Erica Synths (Latvia). Allowing us to host a raffle with various prizes - Vinyl records, eurorack modules and more!
